10 beginner tips for the survival horror remake

After the great remake of Resident Evil 2, a new edition of the now 20-year-old third part of the well-known action adventure series from Capcom is now appearing. While fans of the survival horror classic know to a large extent what they can expect, newcomers might need a little help in some moments. After all, Resident Evil 3 differs from its predecessor in many ways. Therefore, we have summarized ten tips here that will make it easier for you to start playing.

The Resi virtue number 1 naturally also applies to the new edition of Resident Evil 3 (buy now for € 59.99). This time, however, you have to pull yourself together not to waste too many of the precious cartridges, because you will find more ammunition than in the predecessor. However, in Resi 3 you can expect many more opponents, who are often even more persistent. In addition, one should not forget that in the heat of the moment you miss a shot as much as the undead opponents sway. If you have big problems handing out headshots, you can switch to assisted mode. There is more ammunition to be found here and aiming aid is activated. However, the opponents also endure much less in this mode, making the game almost too easy.

2. Run away and use barrels

Instead of fooling around, it is often advisable to simply hold your legs in your hand due to the mass of the opponents if you do not want to be surrounded. You don't have to be ashamed of the flight, because you can usually return later and better equipped and take revenge on the beasts that have panicked you. You should also pay attention to the red barrels in the area. It's pretty easy to lure several zombies nearby and finally send them to the realm of the dead with just one shot.

In general, you should always keep enough distance from the biting enemies, otherwise they like to accrue. In the remake of Resident Evil 2, the beasts could still be fought off with a knife, but unfortunately this no longer works, although the knife no longer breaks. If you are caught by a zombie or another creature, you can hammer on the action button as you like, life energy is still drawn from you.

The knife is not suitable for repelling opponents, but it still has an important function. If the zombie head is not bursting, you can never be sure that the bastards are really dead. Those who pass their motionless bodies in good faith will be bitten faster than an opponent by Luis Suárez. So if you are not 100% sure that the zombie has blessed your time, you should maltreat him a little with a knife. So you quickly notice whether the undead still has a bit of life in it.

Of course, you can't always keep the undead away from you. Sometimes the aisles are so narrow that you can't just bypass them. Here it is advisable to use the evasive maneuver with the right shoulder button. However, the dodging is a bit fiddly to use. Especially at the beginning you stumble into the arms of your enemies. Therefore, practice the action a little right at the start of the game to find out the right timing. If you press the button and in one direction at the exact moment of the incoming attack, you distance yourself from your opponent. Jill performs a role here, while Carlos simply boxes away the attacking monster.

It is best to practice the fiddly evasive maneuver right at the beginning. You will need it later.

How do you defeat Nemesis, the zombies and the other monsters? Of course with firepower! If you keep your eyes open, you will find everything you need in the area. So you will not only come across ammunition, but also new weapons and even various upgrades that will give your boomers even more boom. In addition, you will of course find powder to craft ammunition, herbs and first aid sprays to heal yourself. Since Resident Evil 3 is pretty short anyway, just take the time to look in every corner. There you will often find not only the items mentioned, but also safe combinations or notes that give you useful tips.

7. Strategies for nemesis

The walking bio-weapon Nemesis regularly causes a lot of terror, but you shouldn't be intimidated by the monster. Keep your distance and avoid it cleverly if the beast gets too close. If you are persecuted by Nemesis, you should however take to heart that you can not defeat the dung cattle, but only stop for a short time. However, you should not shoot the magazines empty, but rather use the environment. Both the explosive barrels and the generators stop Nemesis when you shoot them. If you use the barrels or explosive grenades, Nemesis even drops supply boxes in which some really useful items can be found.

8. Know and use skills

Since you finished the campaign very quickly, you will probably also try the asymmetrical multiplayer mode Resistance, which is also included. The gameplay is actually quite simple, but you should urgently familiarize yourself with the peculiarities of the different characters. If you start the game directly without knowing the chosen character, you won't be able to really help your team. So be sure to take the time to try out all of the survivors in practice mode. Some characters are strong in close combat, others can hack the mastermind's cameras, others can heal their teammates. On the other hand, as a mastermind, you quickly find out how everything works. As fun as it is, you shouldn't let the obstacles and opponents spawn directly at the feet of the survivors, but rather act with foresight.

Speaking of mastermind: Since this role is definitely more fun than the key hunt with the survivors and is also a bit too powerful, everyone currently wants to play as a mastermind. This makes matchmaking a bit complicated, because if you are specifically looking for a game as a mastermind, it can take forever to find the other four players you need. If you do not want to gamble with a permanent team, you should definitely choose "Random Game". Here matches come faster and due to the small number of players there is a good chance to get started as a mastermind.

If you want to play as a survivor, teamwork is the be-all and end-all. So it's best to use a headset so that you can coordinate with your fellow players. In addition, you should only move through the areas in a group, otherwise the mastermind can gradually turn you off very easily. So stay together and help each other. Based on some experiences with Randoms, we recommend going into battle with a group of friends anyway.
