Everybody's Darling: The Steam gaming platform has reached a new milestone! Last weekend, 18.8 million active users were online at the same time. However, these almost 19 million users did not necessarily play a game.
When asked which game platform is used most, the answer is probably the same for most gamers: Steam, of course! This answer has even been proven by numbers since last weekend. The platform broke a new weekend record of active users at the same time. So the Steam Database reported on Sunday 18,801,944 userswho were simultaneously active on Steam, skipping the last record of 18,537,490 that was reached in January 2018.
Steam often only runs in the background
That sounds like a lot of people who are playing at the same time. However, SteamDB lets you know that this number does not reflect the players who actually played a game at the time. The gamers were logged into Steam at the time, but did not gamble automatically. During the past weekend only 5.8 million people were playing at the same time, the number was still around 7 million in 2018. This actually reduced the number of users who actually played at the time.
By the way, at the time of the new record, Steam users preferred to play Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, Dota 2, Playerunknown's Battlegrounds, Grand Theft Auto 5, Rainbow Six: Siege and of course Monster Hunter: World. Even these titles did not add up to the value of the simultaneously active users.
For Valve this is still a reason to celebrate, because these high numbers impress not only the players, but of course also Steams competition in the market.
