Not much has changed in the Pokémon Anime for over 20 years – Ash still wants to become a Pokémon master and his stubborn Pikachu doesn't develop any further. The latter should happen soon.

Pokémon: Pikachu has been true to itself since 1997

Many of you may still remember the early days of the Pokémon anime in 1997 – a little boy named Ash wants to be the very best and become Pokémon Masters. To start his journey, he is given the popular Pokémon mascot Pikachu, which is given to him by his stubborn and sometimes hostile nature but at the beginning it is more frustrating than joyful.

Although the character of the electric mouse has changed a lot into a lovable one, it has remained stubborn in one thing: No thunder stones, no development! But that is exactly what is about to change now that the anime has been running for 23 years.

The current season "Pokémon Journeys: The Series" breaks with the well-known series formula in several points. Ash now travels to several regions, including the Galar region from Pokémon Sword and Shield, and is only supported by his partner Pikachu and one another boy named Goh accompanied. This has made it its goal to catch each Pokémon once.

The Netflix trailer for the series gives you more insights:

The episode description of the last episode "I Got Pikachu" (I have Pikachu), rendered by Screenrant, catches the eye of longtime fans. It says:

“While Goh experiences the deep friendship between Ash and Pikachu, the desire to have his own Pikachu grows in him. When Goh learns of a group of Pikachu hanging around nearby, he immediately sets off for the scene. The electric Pokémon dig up "thunder stones" there in order to develop into Raichu. Ash's Pikachu also develops thanks to a "thunder stone" that is discovered by a female Pikachu. "

Pokémon fans still doubt it

The fact that the word “Donnerstein” was put in quotation marks works something suspicious and makes fans doubt that it could finally be that time for Pikachu. On the other hand, it is the season finale, where such a twist definitely fit well would.

What exactly the plot is about will become next Sunday, August 30th, 2020 clarify. Then the episode will be broadcast in Japan. The series is also available on Netflix, but so far only in the US. When you can watch Ash and Pikachu's latest adventure on German Netflix is still unclear.
