A YouTuber has landed his absolute dream job with some impressive Star Wars videos – and can now work on the franchise in Lucasfilm’s special effects team.
The YouTuber Shamook has in the past with several elaborate and deceptively real deepfake videos attracted attention and amassed almost 90,000 subscribers for his channel. His Star Wars deepfakes, in which he processed animated faces from the sci-fi universe in an extraordinarily realistic manner, were particularly popular. Even the makers of the films probably noticed his videos, because Lucasfilm recruited him without further ado.
After Rogue One and The Mandalorian: Star Wars fan now works for Lucasfilm
YouTuber Shamook has very specific features in his Star Wars deepfakes CGI scenes from the hit series The Mandalorian and the prequel Rogue: A Star Wars Story revised. In The Mandelorian, young Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill) made a guest appearance thanks to CGI, but his animated face did not exactly match the original. Shamook has reworked the same scene in his deepfake video and thus achieved a better and more lifelike result.
Also in Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, Princess Leia (Carrie Fisher) and Grand Moff Tarkin (Peter Cushing) two actors shown clearly rejuvenated by CGI – and here, too, Shamook was able to deliver more realistic versions with his deepfakes than the animations shown in the film.

Deepfake YouTuber is now working on Star Wars
At Lucasfilm, Shamook has obviously earned a fair amount of respect through his work. His job title there is now: Senior Facial Capture Artist. So he’ll be fine in the future too especially on the animation and implementation of lifelike facial expressions specialize. A fairytale story that fits perfectly into the Star Wars universe.
