Thanks to the financial report for the last financial year, there is finally official confirmation from Nintendo officials that a Super Mario animated film is due to hit theaters in 2022. Developer legend Shigeru Miyamoto and Chris Meledandri, founder and CEO of Illumination (Minion), are responsible for the implementation.

As early as 2017 we reported that Nintendo was in talks with Universal Pictures and Illumination Entertainment (Despicable Me, Minions, Pets) about the Realization of a new Super Mario movie should be located. Unlike the infamous and popular classic from 1993, this time it was supposed to be a pure animation film.

And if you are wondering what has become of it, then we or that "Corporate Management Policy Briefing "document", which was published in the course of the financial report for the last financial year by the Nintendo executives, the answer for you!

In the document we learn, among other things, how Nintendo intends to continue to shape the future successfully:

  • with their strength to combine hardware and software design into an entertaining whole and to find creative and surprising application possibilities again and again.
  • with the expansion of the Nintendo Account program (more service offers and expansion of the subscription).
  • with the continuation of the creation of a Nintendo ecosystem that goes far beyond the console and its games: with merchandise, amusement parks, mobile offers and "visual content".

With regard to the Super Mario film, the latter point is of course particularly interesting. In the relevant section in the document, Nintendo confirms the production of the animated film, which is due to hit theaters in 2022. Developer legend stands out for the implementation Shigeru Miyamoto and Chris Meledandri, Founder and CEO of Illumination. Universal Pictures will handle worldwide sales.

But it shouldn't stop with the Super Mario film. Nintendo speaks of the fact that various other projects have already been initiated in the area of "visual content" in order to introduce other Nintendo brands to a wider audience. For this, one would like to make some investments in the next few years. The projects should not only be about film implementations. We are excited to see what the future will bring. You too?
