Apple has unveiled a new program for small developers who will get more money with their apps for iOS in the future. The "App Store Small Business Program" is intended for developers who have an annual turnover of less than one million US dollars. In this case, makers have the opportunity to reduce Apple's much-discussed revenue share from 30 percent to 15 percent. This is one of the most significant changes for the App Store since its launch in 2008.

According to Apple, the "vast majority" of iOS developers should be able to register for this program. 28 million developers are currently registered in the App Store. Apple did not say how the new commission will affect the company's future revenue. In 2019 alone, the iPhone makers were able to generate around 50 billion US dollars with the App Store. The program will start on January 1, 2021.

CEO Tim Cook described the move as supporting smaller businesses that would be "the backbone of the global economy and the beating heart of innovation." In the past few months, Apple has been repeatedly criticized for its guidelines in the App Store. One of the best-known examples is the dispute with Epic Games, which also demand a reduction in the 30 percent commission – but for all developers. Due to the dispute, Fortnite is still not available in the App Store for iOS.
