Warner Bros. announced in a FAQ section that author J.K. Rowling is not involved in the development of Hogwarts Legacy. Even so, the world is of course based on the writer's invention. J.K. Rowling had caused controversy in the past with several potentially transphobic statements on Twitter. Hogwarts Legacy will be available in stores in 2021.
This week, Warner Bros.'s long-awaited Harry Potter game, Hogwarts Legacy, was officially launched. The history of the action role-playing game is set 100 years before the events of the famous books at Hogwarts. The new project is of course inevitably related to J.K. Rowling, the author of the Harry Potter books. In the past, the author has not only caused criticism from fans with statements tending to be transphobic on Twitter. Apparently for this reason Warner Bros. speaks out in the FAQs for the game about Rowling:
"J.K. Rowling was not involved in the creation of the game – however, her exceptional writing skills are the cornerstone of any project in the Wizarding World. It is not a new story from J.K. Rowling."
A similar statement was made at the time by the Portkey Games studio, which developed a mobile game from the Harry Potter universe called Hogwarts Mystery. On Twitter, many fans who have a problem with Rowling's statements have now announced that they will buy the new game despite all the controversies in order to ultimately support the developers and their work.
Hogwarts Legacy is slated to hit stores in 2021 for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox Series X, Xbox Series S, and Xbox One. In the game you slip into the role of a new student who has to improve his magical skills in an open game world. We have included the trailer for the announcement below the message.
We give all readers daily free news, articles, guides, videos and podcasts on their favorite games. So far we have financed this site through advertising and kept it as free of clickbaits or paid items as possible, but since COVID-19 this has become increasingly difficult. Many companies are cutting or cutting their advertising budgets for 2020. Budgets that we unfortunately have to rely on if we want to continue to offer PC games free of charge as usual in the future.
For this reason we turn to you now. You can support us as a PC Games supporter so that we can continue to offer our content in the usual form free of charge without introducing a paywall or publishing clickbait news like "And you won't believe what happened next …" . Every contribution, large or small, is valuable.
