The Nintendo Switch Lite has been on the market since September 2019. The variant of the Switch, which is usually around 100 euros cheaper, is smaller and therefore somewhat easier to use on the go. It is available in different colors and has a "real" control pad. It lacks the removable Joy-Cons and, above all, the ability to use it on the TV via a docking station.
Let's take a look at the price development according to idealo: When it was released in autumn 2019, the Switch Lite had an RRP of 249 euros, but was practically immediately available for around 220 euros. The 200 euro mark was already undercut in October 2019. Falling somewhat more slowly, the general downward direction of the price continued until February 2020 – until then a typical price decline. Then came the corona pandemic.
During the first lockdown, the demand for Switch consoles increased enormously, and the game "Animal Crossing: New Horizons" was an additional accelerator for demand in the first half of 2020. Because the regular Switch console was sold out for weeks, it also rose Demand for the Switch Lite was enormous, which in turn increased prices. Ironically, in the middle of the lockdown, a one-time and short-term price of 169 euros was reached – a historic record! But for the most part the best price was again over 200 euros. The situation relaxed again in the second half of 2020. The best price was usually around 195 euros, but thanks to frequent downward breaks, you could regularly find bargains.
