Epic Games has announced the popular Battle Royale shooter Fortnite for the Xbox Series X and Playstation 5. The game is even ported to the new Unreal Engine 5.
Are you planning to buy a PS5 or Xbox Series X and would like to continue on Fortnite play? No problem, because Epic Games has announced that the Battle Royale shooter will also be released for the next-gen consoles.
With the last patch notes for Fortnite (buy now) Scattered Epic Games hints that the online shooter also appears for next-gen consoles. This has now been confirmed. Fortnite was confirmed for the PS5 and Xbox Series X in the live stream of the Summer Game Festival. However, this next-gen version no longer runs with Unreal Engine 4, but with the newly announced Unreal Engine 5. The migration should take place in the middle of next year.
That means you can probably play Fortnite on PS5 and Xbox Series X in the summer or fall of 2021. It is not yet clear which graphic improvements the shooter will get. However, it can be assumed that at least the new global lighting system of Unreal Engine 5 will be used. According to Epic Games, the new version could also enable larger events such as live in-game concerts.
