Microsoft's purchase of Bethesda surprised gamers. Some now worry that future games like The Elder Scrolls 6 and Starfield could only appear for PC and Xbox Series X / S. However, Microsoft's Phil Spencer stated that it doesn't have to be that way.
Microsoft released a bombshell today that shook the game industry quite a bit: The company bought Zenimax Online for 7.5 billion US dollars and with it, too Bethesda. Now some gamers fear that this could bring Xbox and PC exclusivity to upcoming games like Starfield and The Elder Scrolls 6.
Games don't have to be exclusive
Microsoft's Phil Spencer raised these concerns. At least for the games that have been announced for other consoles such as Playstation 4 and 5 and Nintendo Switch, nothing should change. Microsoft will keep this promise. So we see Deathloop and Ghostwire: Tokyo for Sony's consoles too.
But what about The Elder Scrolls 6 and Starfield, as well as all of the unannounced games from Bethesda and Zenimax Online? There is at least a glimmer of hope here. "We will decide a release for other consoles on a case-by-case basis," said Microsoft's Phil Spencer.
This means that upcoming games do not necessarily have to be published exclusively for the Xbox Series X / S and the PC. There is a very good chance that Microsoft could make deals with companies like Sony and Nintendo. Of course, this does not have to happen, but Microsoft does not rule it out.
Even Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella said that Microsoft could consider releasing games on other platforms in the future: "When we think about strategy, be it in the gaming sector or in any other part of Microsoft, every layer has to be for what it is When we talk about our content, we want our content to be widely available. "
Microsoft wants to offer its products to as many consumers as possible, and that goes for games too. So there is hope for Playstation and Nintendo users that upcoming games from Microsoft – and that includes future games from Bethesda – will also be available on these platforms.
