An attentive reddit user noticed that WoW's copyright apparently expired at the end of last year and he then declared himself the new owner. Blizzard reacted immediately and at least on the PTR the copyright is now also valid for the current year, according to the report.

The rights to WoW belong solely to Blizzard Entertainment – that much should be clear to everyone. In order for this to be the case legally, the company has to provide their product with a copyright, which Blizzard also makes reliable. As a result, we can see "Copyright Blizzard Entertainment" on every product and see the famous little © behind the name. But obviously the developers made a small faux pas at an important point. According to the official client, the copyright for WoW is only valid for the period 1994-2020 and would have expired at the end of last year.

Of course, this is just about the failure to adjust this line in the client to the current year. Let's just assume the Blizzard Legal Department didn't collectively sleep here. Especially since it is stated in all other places on the website and in the provisions 2021.

Nevertheless, this mistake was of course noticed by a player who immediately made his own claim as the new owner of WoW in view of the lack of copyright (buy now € 14.99 ) wanted to assert – of course, just kidding on reddit. Obviously, the developers and employees of Blizzard also read there. Because it took less than two days and the corresponding line was adjusted. For now, however, only in the PTR client. Since this will migrate to the live server sometime in March, the developers probably thought it unnecessary to adjust the live client with a small patch.

Did you notice that the period of the specified copyright was given incorrectly or did you ignore it as consistently as we did?

On WoW's live client, the copyright supposedly only runs until 2020.

The copyright has already been adjusted on the WoW PTR client. & Nbsp;
