An update has removed a special emote, actually a specific hand gesture, from Call of Duty, which was only introduced in the current branches of Modern Warfare and Warzone at the beginning of the year. The reason: The same gesture is increasingly used by supporters of the "white supremacy" ideology, so it is racist.
Racism is everywhere. Not only the United States has a problem with inhumane ideologies and ways of thinking, racist ideas are still widespread in Germany. There are also racist elements in video games. So for example one special emote, in this case a certain hand gesture, in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare and Call of Duty: Warzone. The emote was only added to the games earlier this year. Now it was recently removed by an update. It is the "OK" gesture.
Racist hand gesture
This special gesture is shaped by the thumb and forefinger forming a circle by pressing the fingertips together. The little finger, ring finger and middle finger are just stretched away from the palm. Originally a harmless gesture that should just express "okay". For some years now, however, that hand gesture has been increased by racist "white supremacy" supporters used. The three protruding fingers form the symbolism after the letters "W", the circle of index finger with thumb and the rest of the palm represent a "P". The resulting abbreviation "WP" stands for "white power", symbolizing the alleged superiority white people about people with different looks. You can find an explanation of the gesture here.
The connection of the "OK" gesture with an inhuman ideology originally started in 2017 in internet forums as a bad joke, launched by internet roles. Since then, however, the initial joke has become independent, spilled over into the real world, and is no longer considered appropriate for a video game in the face of increasing racist violence. The now removed gesture was replaced through another emote without political or racist reference. The gesture called "crush" is a simple clenched fist.
