Not only AMD's expensive high-end processors seem to be able to compete with the top model from Intel – a cheap version is already taking the butter off the flagship's bread. Is this the new value for money tip for all PC gamers?
Intel vs. AMD: i9 processor has to admit defeat to cheap Ryzen chip
Since the official presentation of the Ryzen 5000 processors, we have known: Intel will lose its place on the gaming throne. Because during the presentation, AMD managing director Dr. Lisa Su is impressive that her new Ryzen 9 processors even match the Intel Core i9-10900K take the butter off the bread in games.
But if you believe a new benchmark, even the significantly cheaper Ryzen 5 5600X seems to be able to stand up to Intel's gaming flagship. In Passmark's single-thread test the Ryzen 5 5600X achieve a score of a whopping 3,495 points – and thus secures the top position in the database of the benchmarking tool. For comparison: The Intel Core i9-10900K only achieves 3,176 points, is around 10 percent behind the result of the AMD processor.
That should hit Intel hard. Because until now it was assumed that only AMD's more expensive Ryzen 9 processors could hold a candle to Intel's flagship processor. Now, however, even the $ 299 Ryzen 5 5600X seems to compete with the i9-10900K, which costs just under 536 euros.
AMD vs. Intel – the underdog is currently competing with the top dog:
AMD beats Intel: Results should be treated with caution
Although the synthetic single-thread performance is a first indicator of a processor's gaming performance, the results often cannot be transferred 1: 1.
In other words: Even if the inexpensive AMD Ryzen 5 5600X is superior to the Intel Core i9-10900K on paper, The processors should deliver a close race in games.
Intel or AMD? For whom does the heart of German PC gamers beat more? Our top 10 tells you:
