Conan the Barbarian: live-action series confirmed for Netflix

Conan the Barbarian from 1982 is not only considered a genre milestone, he also laid the foundation for Arnold Schwarzenegger's impressive acting career. Any further attempts to bring the world of Hyboria to the screen or television, however, have a rather dubious reputation.

In the direct sequel to Conan the Destroyer from 1984, Schwarzenegger slipped again into the role of the Cimmerian. In 1997, the German Ralf Möller took over the eponymous character in the series Conan, the adventure, which was canceled after the first season. In 2011 a new start followed with Conan. This time Jason Momoa (Aquaman, Game of Thrones) tried his luck as Conan.

In 2012 Universal Studios announced that they would like to make another film with The Legend of Conan. The plot is supposed to tie in with the original from 1982 and present Arnold Schwarzenegger as Conan again. The confirmed 2017, that the project is still in progress, the script is currently being finalized. Two years ago, a message made the rounds that a Conan series had been commissioned for Amazon (via PC Games).

Will we hear from the last two projects again? Especially now Deadline reports that those responsible at Netflix were able to close a deal with Conan Properties International to use the brand for films and series (animated and live-action). And the first product has already been determined!

Fredrik Malmberg (Conan (2011)) and Mark Wheeler (Pathfinder Media) are to implement a live-action series in the Conan universe as executive producers. Authors, showrunners, directors and cast have yet to be found. In other words: it will be a while before we see the premiere on the streaming platform.

However, the report shows again that Netflix is specifically securing the rights to well-known brands in order to further expand the potential target group. Last was with Resident Evil: Infinite Darkness a new anime series announced. GoT creators David Benioff and D.B. Weiss are currently working on one Series adaptation of the award-winning Trisolaris trilogy. And for Beyond Good & Evil and Splinter Cell productions are also planned.

What do you think of the current Netflix strategy? And are you looking forward to a new Conan series? Let us know in the comments!
