What does a Topps Imperial Tank Trooper trading card have to do with Star Wars: The Mandalorian? There might be a connection between the Disney series and the movie Rogue One: A Star Wars Story.
Danger! Here are potential spoilers!
The Tank Troopers first appeared in the movie Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, but were not seen again later. It could be that they were only used at that time, shortly before the destruction of the first Death Star. Before that, the great purge of Mandalore took place. In this, the empire drove the Mandalorians from their homeland, which resulted in a great many deaths. The Empire took the precious Beskar steel and turned the planet into an Imperial training camp. We've already seen something about this in the Star Wars: Rebels series, when Sabine Wren and Bo-Katan Kryze found the Darksaber, the dark sword, there and wanted to unite Mandalore against the Empire.
Star Wars fans now suspect that we will see a flashback in season 2 of Star Wars: The Mandalorian and in it the cleanup of Mandalore – in which the imperial tank troopers are then used. This could confirm rumors that Sabine Wren and Bo-Katan Kryze will star in the series. Ahsoka Tano is also rumored to be performing. Until now, fans believed that the three characters would meet the Mando, but we may only get to see them in a flashback. This review could also explain how Moff Gideon got the Darksaber. We'll find out if that is the case in the coming weeks in the second season of Star Wars: The Mandalorian.
