As CD Projekt Red has shown with a new video, the ray tracing effects in the upcoming action RPG Cyberpunk 2077 look very impressive. But for the time being you will only see these on Nvidia RTX graphics cards.
Radeon owners have to wait for ray tracing
The question was asked via Twitter whether the recently published, new system requirements of Cyberpunk 2077 (buy now € 58.19 ) also apply to the new AMD graphics cards. Because only Nvidia is listed in the table for ray tracing effects. Community manager Marcin Momot then stated that no ray tracing is planned for the new Radeon cards, at least for the release. However, the team would work with AMD to add this feature as soon as possible.
So if you've got hold of one of the few Radeon RX 6000 cards, you'll have to wait a little longer before you find out how well ray tracing works with the cards in Cyberpunk 2077. It is not clear when exactly the feature will be submitted via update. Raytracing introduces improved lighting effects and realistically calculated reflections into the game. Cyberpunk 2077 naturally runs without these effects and a Radeon RX 6000 card can display the action RPG smoothly according to the system requirements.
However, the community is already asking why ray tracing doesn't work on the new Radeon cards, because Cyberpunk 2077 supports the feature via DirectX 12, which AMD also does. Is there an exclusive time agreement with Nvidia? How well Cyberpunk 2077 runs with and without ray tracing, we will find out when it is released on December 10th.
