It has been extremely quiet around the zombie game Dead Island 2 for many months. There were rumors and speculations again and again, but it wasn't really concrete. Now there is at least another small sign of life in the form of a subtle hint, the in a current job posting of the currently responsible development team at Dambuster Studios.

We are looking for a producer specializing in animation for an "established AAA title for next-gen consoles and PC platforms". This is actually nothing special in itself – especially because it is not explicitly from Dead Island 2 (buy now € 69.99 ) the speech is. However, it is the only game featured in all of Dambuster Studios' other job postings. Also, no other project is currently known that the team is currently working on. Therefore, it seems reasonable to conclude that the "AAA title" is in all probability Dead Island 2.

Release only for next-gen platforms?

If this is true, it would mean that Dead Island 2 will no longer appear as originally planned for the PS4 and Xbox One, but for the next-gen consoles PS5 and Xbox Series X. A confirmation from Dambuster Studios or the responsible publisher THQ Nordic is still pending.

It would be another chapter in the already turbulent development story of Dead Island 2. Originally announced in 2014, Studio Yager initially worked on the zombie game. In 2016, the Sumo Digital team took over the work before the next developer change came in 2019. In addition, there were always rumors and speculations about one or the other restart of the project.
