Scalpers are very big in business this year and can use bots to buy consoles such as the PS5 and Xbox Series X in seconds and thus snatch them away from regular buyers. But a bot network has now suffered a major setback.
Scalpers don't get consoles
In fact, the scalper group CrepChiefNotify boasted that they had bought more than 1,000 Xbox Series X consoles from a retailer in England. Of course, bots were used. But the scalpers have to wait a long time for the devices because the order has been canceled. Not because it should go to Scalper, but because it was a technical error. The 1,000 consoles didn't exist at all.
“As a result of a technical error, some people were able to place orders for PS5 and Xbox consoles of the X series for a short time on Sunday,” said the online retailer. "However, these items are not for sale and affected customers have received a notice that their orders have been canceled. We apologize for the confusion this has caused."
This cancellation also hit the scalper group CrepChiefNotify. The trader stated that repayments are now being initiated for the purchases. For CrepChiefNotify, of course, that didn't go so well. The network stated that the bot purchases ensure that many members can finally bring some food back to the table, which would be problematic without scalping. "Many members of our community have been on leave, fired or disadvantaged in any way because of the pandemic," says CrepChiefNotify. "These people have managed to pay their bills, put food on the table and provide their children with Christmas presents. It may be unfortunate that one child doesn't wake up with a PS5 this Christmas, but another child might be nothing woke up. We have no regrets. "
