Details of the new game from the Hitman developers
Although the project is still in the early stages of development, IO Interactive CEO Hakan Abrak has already revealed the first details of the upcoming James Bond video game Project 007 to the Danish broadcaster. The studio behind the Hitman series, the latest part of which Hitman 3 is the reboot -Trilogy about Agent 47 brought to a conclusion for the time being, is working in collaboration with rights holder MGM on a playable implementation of the Bond franchise.
The film series to give the probably most famous spy in the world into the hands of the studio, which is responsible for the most iconic agent series in the field of computer games, looks at least on paper like an absolute sure-fire success. For many fans of both series, the announcement of the game should already have a picture of what is likely to await us with the title. After all, the gameplay of the Hitman series already contains many elements that we can easily imagine in a James Bond adventure. The preference of both series for exotic and memorable locations suggests that it is very likely that exactly the right people are at work here.
Abrak has now revealed that he and his team have great ambitions in developing Project 007 and that he expects to double the studio to 400 employees over the next few years. He also wants to build a sister studio in Sweden that will be involved in the implementation on a large scale.
In terms of content, Project 007 should have absolutely nothing to do with the universe of films. The main character James Bond himself should not be based on the current or a past screen interpretation of the figure. Instead, we control Bond even before he has earned his legendary status as a double-zero agent. Obtaining the promotion will arguably be an integral part of the game and the reward for completing a particularly challenging mission. All the other elements that we know from the Bond films will also be represented. So fans should be able to prepare for car chases and villains with world domination fantasies.
Obtaining the license for Bond was difficult, according to Abrak, because not only MGM, but also EON-Productions, which is run by the broccoli family, had to give the green light for the development. In his opinion, convincing step-siblings Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson of the concept only worked because the pitch was presented in a "classically down-to-earth, Scandinavian" manner. Actually averse to video games due to their high level of violence, the producers finally gave IO Interactive their blessing. When exactly we can expect a release of the game is still completely in the stars.
IO Interactives Hitman 3, on the other hand, has been available since January 20, 2021. You can find out whether the game is worth it in our test.
