The creative director and author of Days Gone recently expressed a controversial opinion about the lack of a sequel to the zombie, no freaker adventure.
A PC port will be available for Days Gone in a few weeks, but it looks bad for a sequel. Sony rejected it for the time being. John Garvin was the creative director and writer at developer Bend Games and jointly responsible for Days Gone. In his opinion, wear too the players partly to blame for the fact that Sony does not want a sequel.
“If you love a game, buy it for the bloody full price.”
In one interview lasting several hours (Link with timecode) Garvin also spoke to YouTuber David Jaffe about Days Gone, the end of a sequel and the problem of sales offers. Garvin no longer works at Bend Games and gives here just his personal point of view as a developer again.
Garvin criticizes players who do not buy a game at full price but wait for a cheap offer:
“I have an opinion on something that viewers may find interesting, and it is likely to upset some. If you love a game, buy it for the bloody full price. I can’t say how often I’ve heard from players: ‘Yes, I got that on sale, I got it through PS Plus, whatever.’ “
Then Jaffe asks how players should know if they love a game before they buy it. Garvin answers:
“I’m just saying you don’t know, but don’t complain if a game doesn’t get a sequel if it wasn’t supported at launch. For example: God of War has, what do I know, how many million sales at launch and Days Gone has not. I only speak for myself personally as a developer. I don’t work for Sony and don’t know the numbers. “
According to Garvin, players shouldn’t complain if a game doesn’t get a sequel as long as they haven’t bought it at launch and at full price.
A complicated comparison
It’s hard to compare Days Gone to God of War. God of War was the continuation of a franchise established over a decade ago with a large fan base. Days Gone was a completely new game of a rather unknown studio, which has developed games for Sony’s handhelds for the previous ten years.
Many players are also leadingthat Days Gone is about to release one was a mediocre game and with numerous bugs and technical problems had to fight. Another important point is the high price of video games. Not everyone can afford itTo pay 60 euros and more for a game and with all the love. If it isn’t on sale, then the only alternative is not to buy it at all. It is questionable whether this is of any use to a developer.
The PC version for Days Gone will be released on May 18, 2021.
