Diablo 2: does a remake with Diablo 4 make sense on the horizon? – Current games
Industry insider Jason Schreier said that, according to his information, the developer studio Vicarious Visions is developing a remake of Diablo 2. The studio, best known for reprinting titles like Crash Bandicoot and Tony Hawk's Pro Skater, recently joined Blizzard.
Three diablos at once?
Now Blizzard is already working on Diablo 4 – and Diablo Immortal is also coming as a mobile game. That would mean that with the potential remake we would get two Diablo games for PC and basically even three Diablos in general. It is conceivable that Diablo 4 and Diablo Immortal can exist in parallel. After all, they are games that are played on different platforms. But what about Diablo 2? (buy now € 34.95 ) Can two hack and slays from the same brand and with very similar gameplay be successful side by side in the same setting?
Fans have been waiting for a remake of Diablo 2 for a long time. For some it is the best game of the series so far because it captures the gloomy atmosphere very well and is also quite complex. In contrast, Diablo 3 is rather colorful and offers quite simplified features that are aimed at a broader audience. A remake of Part 2 – if done well – could be exactly what some fans want.
Diablo 4 should also be dark again, but the gameplay goes in a slightly different direction. It offers some elements of an MMORPG, such as an online world in which you meet other players and world events in which you have to fight against huge bosses, for example. And this MMO gameplay in particular has already led to criticism. It is not possible to play offline and alone. You will inevitably meet other players. This is said to be rare in the wild, but more common in cities. In addition, there are special PvP areas where others can hunt you down. So Diablo 4 goes in its own direction.
So it makes perfect sense if Blizzard were to bring out a remake of Diablo 2, a game that is more aimed at fans of classic gameplay. Who either want to travel alone or with friends. If, on the other hand, you want to enjoy an MMO-like gaming experience, you can use Diablo 4.
Whether we will really get a remake of Diablo 2 is not yet certain, as neither Blizzard nor Vicarious Visions have confirmed that they are working on such a title.
