According to recent reports, Lucasfilm and Disney have already found the director for the next movie in the Star Wars series. But there is no name yet from those responsible. In December 2022, the next film of the sci-fi saga will be released in cinemas. It is also not the trilogy of Rian Johnson, which is still in production.

After the release of "Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker" in the cinemas, the sci-fi series will take a break for now, as Disney CEO Bob Iger confirmed a few months ago. For December 2022, however, is already set the date for the next movie from Star Wars. According to a report by the Hollywood Reporter, those responsible for Lucasfilm's President Kathleen Kennedy have now also found a director for this film. A name has not been named yet.

The film in 2022 should also have nothing to do with the planned trilogy of Episode 8 director Rian Johnson. Originally the date was in December 2022 for the first film of the trilogy of Game of Thrones showrunner D.B. White and David Benioff provided. However, a few weeks ago, the partnership with Disney and Lucasfilm ended. At the earliest in January 2020, those in charge want to talk about new films. This year, no more announcement is planned.

The future of Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy remains uncertain. Their contract with Lucasfilm ends in 2021, one year before the new sci-fi series. Incidentally, another Star Wars film is currently in production with Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige. As of December 18th, the Skywalker saga will conclude with episode 9. Only today was a new commercial with additional scenes from the film released.
