The id Software team will remove Denuvo's anti-cheat software from Doom Eternal just a few days after its launch. There has been a lot of criticism of this protection in recent days. The software will be gone again with the next update. The makers are now looking for alternatives.

Just a few days after the launch of Denuvo's anti-cheat software, the id Software team will remove the protection from Doom Eternal again with the next update. The developers are responding to criticism from fans who have surfaced on the Internet in recent days. Accordingly, the anti-cheat software is said to have caused performance problems for some players. In addition, the protection should access a driver in the core of the operating system, which fans also did not like.

Executive producer Marty Stratton joined Reddit now commented on anti-cheat software. This allows the developer to understand the criticism of the players, but also defends the decision to use the software for Doom Eternal. The team wanted to implement a secure anti-cheat measure for the shooter's competitive game modes. The Denuvo software has proven to be particularly effective here. Now the developers of id Software will have to look for alternatives.

Fans recently also speculated that Bethesda is responsible for the end of the anti-cheat software in Doom Eternal. However, according to Marty Stratton, this is not the case. The decision was made solely by his development team. The anti-cheat software mentioned has nothing to do with Denuvo's copy protection, which is used in other games. Doom Eternal (buy now) has been available on PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One since March 20, 2020.
