The development studio Hidden Path Entertainment announced via Twitter that new employees are being sought. A large, AAA role-playing game with open world based on Dungeons & Dragons is currently being developed.
An open world RPG with a horror scenario
You should experience the adventure from the 3rd person perspective. More has not yet been revealed about the game. Hidden Path has so far been known for smaller titles such as the VR game Witchblood or the tower defense game Defense Grid 2 as well as for work on CS: GO and Age of Empires 2 HD. Developing an AAA open world RPG now is an ambitious project for the studio. The website says, "As you may have heard, we're working with Wizards of the Coast on a very exciting project: an open-world, third-person, AAA RPG set in the Dungeons & Dragons franchise We're sharing this news today as we're looking for adventurers to join us on this extremely exciting journey. We're a dedicated team that D&D really loves and we're looking for people to join us on our epic adventure want."
What is particularly exciting about the project is that Whitney "Strix" Beltràn is involved. She previously worked on a horror RPG with Bluebeard's Bride and co-wrote the D&D campaign book "Van Richten's Guide to Ravenloft". These could be indications that we can prepare for a horror scenario for the new D&D game. Wizards of the Coast currently attaches great importance to the Ravenloft setting, which is set in a dark dimension full of vampires, werewolves, zombies and mummies. In the 1990s, the scenario for AD&D 2nd Edition was extremely popular and produced not only a successful fantasy horror novel series, but also two popular computer RPGs, Ravenloft: Strahd's Possession from 1994 and Ravenloft: Stone Prophet ( 1995). The mix of classic fantasy with elves, dwarves, halflings and magic, paired with horror elements, was very well received at the time.
A return to this horror scenario would be very exciting. So this new D&D RPG could break away from the sword coast of the Forgotten Realms, where the last computer games were set, and provide a breath of fresh air. When the open world title will appear has not yet been determined.
