Epic Games: publisher initiative launched, Remedy and Playdead on board – Gamesaktuell

Epic Games has announced a publishing initiative that three well-known developer studios have already partnered with. These include Remedy Entertainment, gen DESIGN and Playdead. The initiative focuses on "fundamental changes to the developer-publisher model" and developer-friendly conditions. The first games will be presented in the next few months.

Epic Games' leaders today announced a cross-platform publishing initiative. The company wants to put developers in the foreground in a supporting role. The first collaborations have already been presented. Accordingly, Epic Games will work with Playdead (Inside, Limbo) and gen DESIGN (The Last Guardian). Remedy Entertainment will also be there when the initiative starts. We have already reported on two new projects from the Finnish developer studio that will result from this deal.

According to the announcement, Epic Games will "make fundamental changes to the developer-publisher model" to ensure developer-friendly conditions across the industry. These are the components:

  • Complete freedom of design and ownership: The developers are the sole owners of all intellectual property and have complete freedom of design.
  • Fully funded projects: Epic Games Publishing bears up to 100% of the development costs, from developer salaries to launch costs (such as quality assurance, localization and marketing), and all publishing costs.
  • 50:50 profit sharing: The developers receive a fair share of the profits for their work – as soon as the costs have been amortized, they will share at least 50% of all profits.

In the coming months, Epic Games would like to introduce further information, partners and games that are under development as part of the publishing initiative.
