Escape from Tarkov may be a shooter that not many have on the radar. And yet it is currently the most watched game on Twitch.
Escape from Tarkov is a hardcore online shooter aimed at a very specific target group. But the game obviously has a pretty big appeal, as it is currently the most watched title on Twitch.
A hardcore shooter becomes a crowd puller
As of January 30th, Escape from Tarkov's audience reached 124,000 total viewers. This is even higher than the other leaders of League of Legends and Fortnite. One of the reasons for this is a promotional campaign by the developer studio Battlestate Games. If you watch certain live streams, you currently get special loot in the game.
However, it is also fascinating to watch others play Escape from Tarkov. Because the online shooter is a very violent gaming experience. If you die, you can lose everything and the developers attach great importance to realism. The trajectories of projectiles, for example, are calculated physically correctly and even a grazing shot can have fatal consequences.
Ironically, Battlestate Games' official Twitch channel was recently banned because the developers showed a real – albeit unloaded – weapon live and one of the team aimed and fired it. Escape from Tarkov is currently in closed beta.
