The Chinese game company Tencent opens a new developer studio in Los Angeles. There, former rock star employees are said to produce AAA games for PS5 and Xbox Series X – and on very employee-friendly terms.
Rockstar Games and other studios have been talked about in the past because of supposedly worse crunchtimes in the development of computer games. In a new studio, things should be different now.
An interesting game from an interesting team
The new Studio LightSpeed is founded by the Chinese games company Tencent in Los Angeles. Former rock star developer Steve Martin, who has played leading roles in GTA 5 and Red Dead Redemption 2, is to head the studio. He has put together a team of former colleagues from Rockstar Games as well as ex-employees from Respawn Entertainment, 2K Games and Insomniac. Several AAA games are planned for PS5 and Xbox Series X.
"We are ushering in a new era of gaming culture by combining first-class development with a stress-free work environment," said Martin. "From day one, our teams will focus on developing games at the highest level while promoting integrity, proactivity, collaboration and creativity." Martin further explains that there should be no crash times. You also pay a lot of attention to team inclusion.
The first game to be released is a large open-world game that will be released for Playstation 5 and Xbox Series X. However, since the studio is currently under construction, it will take a while before we learn more about this title. But it could be an exciting game considering that such an experienced team is working on it. In addition, Tencent should be able to easily provide the necessary financial resources for such a project.
