Cyberpunk 2077 was a great success – that sounds like a bold lie to some, but a new game has to sell first and foremost, and the sci-fi blockbuster from CD Projekt did just that. This is now revealed by a report for investors in which the official sales figures were revealed.

With all the reports about bugs in Cyberpunk 2077, chaos behind the scenes and misleading marketing, one naturally wonders: Was the early launch worth it for the Studio CD project? A report for investors now gives a clear answer: Cyberpunk 2077 has already sold over 13 million times.

A great success even with returned copies

Anyone who thinks that the number should be smaller because of refund campaigns on PS4 and Xbox One is wrong. The 13 million are to be considered already taking into account returned games and really include all digital and physical versions of the game for all possible platforms that have been sold so far.

Refunds from CD Projekt: Developer pays refunds out of pocket

The number of pre-orders for Cyberpunk 2077 was immense, with 8 million games being ordered in this way alone. The long development has thus paid off, literally: The costs have long been covered again.

What does the future of CD Projekt look like?

Nevertheless, the developers have to stay on the ball. PS5 and Xbox Series X are currently only running the PS4 and Xbox One versions of the game, while many bugs make life in Night City difficult for players across all platforms. CD Projekt seems to have lost the "Golden Boy of Gaming" image, which good post-launch support could at least fix something.
