PCs and joysticks for amateur pilots
Anyone who has always wanted to fly around the world without leaving their apartment can do so with flight simulators. In terms of civil aviation, there was a long time calm on the game market. But a few days ago it is the one that many have longed for Microsoft Flight Simulator came on the market – it is also part of the Xbox Game Pass for PC as well as the Xbox Game Pass Ultimate. Even before the official release, we had flown to some of the desired airports for youto give you a first impression of the game.
Although some parts of the game are downloaded live from the Internet, the Flight Simulator still needs a decent gaming PC. We have therefore put together three PC configurations for all budding hobby pilots among you for 600, 1100 and 1600 euros. The PCs are of course also suitable for other games and have a balanced price-performance ratio for their price. We also offer a short purchase advice on joysticks including an overview of some current models – because without a joystick, flight simulation is only half as fun. More precisely, a real flight simulation can hardly be mastered without a joystick, unless you activate so many aids that the simulation factor is hardly worth mentioning. But first let's take a look at Flight Simulator X and its technology.
Microsoft Flight Simulator: Technology
With Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020 you can fly over all conceivable places in the world and take off and land at both large international and small regional airports.

You have the choice of what type of aircraft you use. Depending on which edition you buy, there are between 20 and 30 aircraft, plus over 40,000 airports, of which – also depending on the edition – 30 to 40 airports have been reproduced in great detail. For example, one day you can take a long-haul passenger flight from metropolis to metropolis at 900 km / h and take off from a small Swiss airport on the other day with a small Cessna and marvel at the Alps and their surroundings at just 300 km / h . From the outside camera view, the planes and clouds alone look grandiose – so that the landscapes and cities also look realistic, Microsoft has a huge amount of satellite photos ready, which are transmitted to the player from the Internet like a stream and the floor of the Authentically reproduce the flight route. Optionally, the necessary data can also be downloaded before the start of the flight, as a kind of offline mode.

For a representation that is as realistic as possible, tons of objects such as buildings and other structures, but also trees and more, which become 3D objects via algorithms, so that you don't just see a kind of floor wallpaper when you fly a little lower. Even road traffic is simulated (at least purely visually) so that you don't fly through a sterile world. With the huge flood of images and objects that are necessary, even a software giant like Microsoft cannot perfectly map every corner of the world. Of course, areas for which there is a lot of photo material and more besides the flight simulator are particularly successful. Especially when you fly relatively low in slower aircraft, you can see in many parts of the world that the images used are sometimes not very high-resolution, or you can recognize strange-looking objects. Discrepancies like this are particularly noticeable now that the game is new, since, of course, comparatively many players first want to see how well the area in which they live has turned out. Some We only summarized curious examples that players have already discovered in an article for you on Thursday. Although a lot of the data is streaming to the PC, you need a very powerful PC for detailed graphics – if you can compromise on the details when it flies a little lower, you will also have fun with a relatively cheap PC. From the next page we offer you for the Microsoft Flight Simulator (buy now for 69.99 €), but also for other modern games three sample PCs to assemble yourself from 600 euros.
