Not only Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War, but also other games such as Spider-Man: Miles Morales, Demon Souls or Godfall don't seem to run smoothly on the next-gen PS5 console. Crashes occur or the entire console turns off. But there now seems to be a remedy.
The sleep mode seems to be causing problems
As Jeff Gerstman from Giant Bomb reports, these crashes probably occur when the PS5 is in sleep mode while the game is running in the background. If an external hard drive is then connected, this apparently causes problems which mean that the external HDD has to be repaired. There are also reports that crashes occur after the PS5 has been switched off and restarted or, when the console gets extremely warm, the sleep mode – especially in combination with an external hard drive connected – seems to be the trigger for quite a few users Problems to be.
Until Sony offers a fix in the form of a firmware update, it is advisable to switch off the PS5's sleep mode. You can do this under settings in the power saving options. Simply change the setting for the sleep mode timer so that the PS5 never goes into sleep mode. If you notice overheating problems, the console switches off immediately and then disconnects it from the power.
The problem can even be partially carried over to the Xbox Series X. Again, there are reports that apparently the sleep mode in Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War (buy now € 53.99 ) Causes crashes. Here, too, the console can be set so that it does not switch to sleep mode or standby mode.
