In GW2, players were unable to reach the EU servers from Monday evening to Tuesday afternoon (May 11th – May 12th). Because these were blocked for maintenance work, because of a rollback bug that temporarily erased the game progress from the weekend. These advances have now been restored. Progress on May 11, from 9:40 a.m. and 4:10 p.m. German time has been lost – in the period between rollback and maintenance. There is now compensation for this:
- If you are logged in at this time, you will receive a "strange creatures" mount license. This item normally costs 1,200 gems in the shop and allows you to selectively unlock one of the brand new mounts.
- Anyone who has logged in to GW2 in the past 30 days will receive a free community reinforcement fire.
Why is the GW2 community angry?
On Reddit and Twitter, many users are now complaining about this compensation: Because many GW2 players have deliberately not opened the game on Monday, because the rollback was known there. To conserve servers, protect their character or simply not to make any further progress that will be lost through another rollback. They now feel kidnapped because they are missing out on special compensation.
This is what angry players say online
"Damn it, I guess I should have just logged in instead of waiting sensibly. ", comments for example chuffingpenguin.
"So … the important hint here is: the next time there is a major server problem and you want to get rewards, be sure to LOG IN WHILE THE PROBLEMS ARE EXISTING!", Rapturos sarcastically puts it.
"I don't think Anet should really distribute mount licenses to a very select group of people here. It seems very disproportionate to me, since everyone was inconvenient in one way or another.", the player suggests Nyth.
"So now I'm being punished for being sensible and not playing during server problems, thanks :)", says SupremeSausageXXL and reflects many more comments in the Reddit thread to announce Arenanet contrary.
The opinion of buffed author and GW2 player Matthias: "I really don't think much of this specific selection. I was of course spontaneously happy about a free mount, but when I heard that it only existed when you were so 'reckless' to log in, the joy was quickly gone. I know enough people who would rather stay careful and keep their hands off the game because of the rollback problem. The community reinforcement fire is really a joke as a consolation. We're talking about a 1,200 gem skin that I got. That would currently cost 360 gold in the game – so even if I had lost progress between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m., don't think I would have liked to get 360 gold instead. I hope that the developers will extend the mount reward to all players. "
