The developers have already indicated that the survival open world game on Dune from Funcom will be some time in coming. But thanks to Tencent's entry, the people of the Dune team can build a higher quality and more extensive game, they are writing now – and are looking for more than 50 new employees to make the vision of Dune a reality.
Dune is a long time coming. The theatrical release of Denis Villeneuve's new Dune film has been postponed to October 2021. And the development of the survival open world game by the Norwegian development studio Funcom is also progressing, but it is far from finished. Nevertheless, the people at Funcom have taken the upcoming turn of the year as an opportunity to report the news from the world of Dune to the community. In a post to the gaming community, Funcom's CEO Rui Casais wrote that the ambitious project had grown in scope during pre-production.
"With Tencent behind us, we are now encouraged to advance our ambitions in the multiplayer survival genre and increase the quality and scope of the game," it says Contribution to the community. This is expressed, among other things, in the fact that there are currently more than 50 positions to be filled in the Dune team, and a few more should come in 2021, as Casais promises. This, in turn, shows that Dune's production will pick up speed in the coming year. When, of course, the first pictures and impressions or even an alpha or beta can be expected is in the stars.
Dune fans have already indicated in our comments in the past that they view Funcom's Dune project with a certain skepticism. Perhaps this can be invalidated in 2021, as Casais promises the following: "I look forward to telling you more about this game and some of our other projects in the coming year." Let's stay excited!
