The much-debated Game of Thrones finale was over a year ago. While this has been a disappointment to many fans, the series' popularity doesn't seem to be dropping – at least with illegal downloads.
The Game of Thrones finale didn't go down well with everyone – let's say diplomatic. The controversial end (or even the whole last season) of the groundbreaking popular fantasy series is well known, even to people who have never seen Game of Thrones. But that hardly seems to prevent people from watching the series again or for the first time. At least when you look at the number of illegal downloads.

What do people watch during Corona?
The Website ParrtoAnalytics has evaluated which series were most frequently downloaded as pirated copies within 60 days. The reason is the ongoing corona pandemic, which banishes many people to their homes, where they have plenty of time for a series marathon. The result is definitely interesting, apart from Game of Thrones in first place: With Rick and Morty, the anime My Hero Academia, Spongebob and the DC series Harley Quinn, the top 10 most illegal downloads even consist of animation series.
- game of Thrones
- Rick and Morty
- My Hero Academia
- the Walking Dead
- SpongeBob SquarePants
- The 100
- The Mandalorian
- The Flash
- Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.
- Harley Quinn
However, the ParrotAnalytics overview does not provide information about which seasons have been downloaded – so it may well be that viewers only get the "good first seasons" and avoid the end of the series.
What's next from Game of Thrones?
While George R.R. Martin continues to write the next novel Winds of Winter, fans of Game of Thrones are looking for new stories. One of them will be Fire and Blood. This prequel series will deal with the conquest of Westeros by the Targaryen family.
