According to SuperData, the games market was able to increase its total sales somewhat in 2019. The industry generated a total of $ 120.1 billion last year. The mobile market continues to be responsible for the majority. With sales of $ 1.8 billion, Fortnite is again at the top of the rankings in 2019.

The market research company SuperData has published the sales figures of the game industry for 2019. Accordingly, the market grew 3 percent year over year to $ 120.1 billion. The total is determined from the sales of the areas "Mobile, PC, console, AR, VR and Esport". In 2020, the experts expect an increase of 4% to $ 124.8 billion.

More than half of the sales for 2019 go to the account of the mobile market. A total of $ 64.4 billion was spent here. It is followed by the PC with a total of $ 29.6 billion and the console with $ 15.4 billion. For the second year in a row, Fortnite was the leader with $ 1.8 billion in sales. Compared to the previous year ($ 2.4 billion), the Battle Royale shooter from Epic Games also suffered losses.

According to SuperData, the market for premium games (AAA games) collapsed by 5% last year. Accordingly, there were fewer highlights in 2019 that could have boosted sales. In 2018, games like Red Dead Redemption 2, Marvel's Spider-Man or Monster Hunter: World made for a very successful year of premium titles. For 2020, big games are already in the starting blocks with Cyberpunk 2077, Final Fantasy 7 Remake, The Last of Us Part 2, Animal Crossing: New Horizons or Marvel's Avengers. The launch of the next-gen consoles from Sony (PlayStation 5) and Microsoft (Xbox Series X) is also imminent at the end of the year.
