After Aldi has devoted himself primarily to devices for the home office in the last few weeks, gamers are now getting their money's worth. As of next week, the discounter will not only be offering desktop computers to play with, but also has a gaming notebook on offer.
Medion Erazer P15609: The affordable gaming notebook from Aldi in the technology check
In addition to two stationary gaming towers, Aldi will also be offering a relatively inexpensive gaming laptop from May 28, 2020. The Medion Erazer P15609 is said to cost just 799 euros, but according to the manufacturer it is the "perfect notebook for core gamers". A look at the technical data of the mobile gaming PC shows that this term has been extended quite a bit. As a processor, Medion uses an i5-9300H for the Aldi notebook, which clocks at a maximum of 4.1 GHz and offers four cores and 8 threads. In most cases, this would be sufficient even for current games.
A much bigger sticking point is the built-in graphics card. Only an Nvidia GeForce GTX 1650 is used in the gaming laptop. Although this offers enough power to play graphically weaker titles such as Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, League of Legends, Valorant and Co. in high settings – however, if you want to enjoy technically demanding games in reasonable frame rates, the graphics settings have to be something screw back.
The same applies to the expectations of the working memory. For the price of just 799 euros, you can hardly expect more, but for a gaming laptop, 8 GB RAM are still very tight and may turn out to be a bottleneck.
For the 15.6 inch display, Medion uses an IPS panel with Full HD resolution, which offers a refresh rate of 60 Hz. Although this ensures rich colors and stable viewing angles, the picture should not be fluid enough for players of fast first-person shooters. The battery capacity of 49 Wh is also quite lean. Although the hardware equipment should work quite energy-saving even under load compared to high-end models, you shouldn't expect a long battery life from the gaming laptop. Even in office use, it should be over after 3 hours at the latest.
After all, the weight is just 2.1 kilograms pleasantly low. The laptop can therefore be easily carried in a backpack for a while. If you also like to play at night, you will be happy that the keyboard of the notebook has lighting with 15 different colors. Windows 10 Home is used as the operating system.
How to make the operating system even faster:
The number of different connections is also impressive. In addition to USB-C and two USB-A ports (1x USB 3.1; 1x USB 2.0), buyers can also use an HDMI port, a DisplayPort connection, a LAN socket and a microphone and audio combo connection and an SD card reader. A round compilation.
Medion Erazer P15609: is it worth buying the Aldi gaming laptop?
With a price of just 799 euros, the Medion Erazer P15609 is quite cheap, but it only partially lives up to the title “gaming”. For 100 euros more, you can get a laptop from HP, especially at Cyberport, which offers significantly more graphics performance, more RAM, a larger battery, a 144 Hz display and a larger SSD. In our eyes, the much better offer. The Aldi offer is not a real price hit, at the same time there is hardly any competition in this price category, since most gaming laptops like to cost more than 1,000 euros.
The Medion Erazer P15609 will be available from May 28th, 2020 via the "Aldi supplies" program at both Aldi Nord and Aldi Süd. The sale is scheduled to run through June 20, 2020, but will most likely end early if there are no devices left in stock.
