Polyphony Digital has released another update for Gran Turismo Sport. Version 1.65 of the game will receive official support for the Olympic Virtual Series, which will debut later this week. The update is 3GB in size and is now available for download. The event itself cannot yet be selected – but that should change on May 13, 2021 at the start of the competition. Further details will follow shortly.

No special changes were listed in the patch notes for the update. According to the development team, some problems have been fixed and minor adjustments have been made to the sport mode. This apparently includes a change to the penalty system of the racing simulation, with which all drivers should receive less severe penalties for short-term connection problems in the future.

Before the beginning of the Olympic Games in Tokyo, the IOC will host an esports event for the first time, in which players will compete against each other in five different virtual sports. Prominent esports titles such as League of Legends, CS: GO or Valorant are not yet represented. Instead, the focus of the Olympic Virtual Series is on classic sports. In addition to Gran Turismo Sport (buy now 16,50 € ) for motorsport, baseball, cycling, rowing and sailing are also held in virtual format. The event will take place between May 13th and June 23rd, 2021. FIFA (soccer), FIBA (basketball), ITF (tennis) and World Taekwondo have already expressed their interest in future Olympic Virtual Series events.
