Eight years after the launch of GTA Online on PS3 and Xbox 360, the Rockstar Games team has made the decision to shut down the title’s servers for good. The online mode can still be played on the consoles of the time until December 16, 2021. At the same time, the sale of Shark Cards in the stores will also end. The shutdown will take place three months earlier, on September 15th. The story mode of GTA 5 remains of course unaffected.

Since 2015, Rockstar Games has not provided updates for GTA Online on PS3 and Xbox 360. According to the team, the technical limits that were possible with these consoles have been reached. From then on, the focus was only on the versions for PS4, Xbox One and PC. A next-gen version of GTA 5 is currently in development and will be released for PS5 and Xbox Series X / S. GTA Online is also getting a standalone offshoot for the first time.

Incidentally, on September 16, 2021, Rockstar Games will pull the server plug for two more games. These are May Payne 3 and LA Noire for PS3 and Xbox 360.
