New World has been available for about two weeks now and real communities have now formed on the various servers. Most areas have already been taken by guilds, many players know each other because each name can only be used once, and slowly players are acquiring enough levels and gold to get involved in the auction house.

Unfortunately, some players have already started cheating on their server colleagues and stealing massive amounts of gold from them. For example, on Reddit, some players shared stories of the collapse of an entire faction due to the misdeeds of a few players. So writes the Reddit user Paradoggs:

“I think sobe the Syndicate faction of the Heracleion server just has the speed running record for faction-destroying drama in New World (buy now 39,99 €) achieved. Just seven days. “

In New World, players can join one of three factions and compete within guilds to rule over certain areas. Once a guild has taken a place, it benefits from various taxes on item trading, crafting, and home ownership. This creates a pretty nice amount of gold, which is administered solely by the guild leaders. So the whole system is based on trust.

According to Paradoggs, he was part of a guild that recently lost a war against another faction. With no gold-generating territories, the guild leader asked its members to donate all of their gold to the guild so that they can acquire the last unclaimed area. Since winning a war is probably not an option, this was the guild’s last chance to manage its own zone. It is said that around 200 players donated a total of 60,000 gold, which is a really large sum for most solo players. Instead of taking an area, however, the guild leadership sacked all of the gold and disappeared.

Paradoggs goes on to explain that the guild leadership and friends created new characters, transferred all of the gold to them, and erased their old characters so they could start over from scratch without anyone knowing who they are. This scam plunged the Syndicate faction on Heraclion into absolute chaos:

“Ninety people from the guild are now alone and broke. The faction (the smallest on this server) is full of disorder and betrayal. Nobody trusts anyone and nobody knows what to do about it.”

The associated Reddit post quickly received numerous upvotes and many players shared similar experiences in the comments. It looks like guild leaders plunder the guild bank on many servers and overflow to another faction. Other guilds are falling apart due to interpersonal drama:

“This game is wreaking havoc on the faint of heart. I have a friend whose guild leader kicked him and others out because they disagreed on some in-game strategies after winning,”wrote one commentator. “Years of friendship, in which other games were also played, is falling apart. It’s crazy.”

“Something similar happened on my server a few days ago,” wrote another player. “The greatest Covenant guild leader emptied the coffers and went over to the Syndicate.”

A lot of players probably experienced similar things, which is of course not very nice. At the same time, however, this also creates enmities between the factions that were not there before and perhaps over time the cohesion of the fraudulent factions will also be strengthened. However, if you’re part of a guild that is begging you to donate some gold, you might want to come up with a clever excuse.
