Guild Wars 2 is one of many games by Korean publisher NCSoft, which presented the company's most recent quarter in its new financial report. GW2 shows a particularly strong slump in revenue.
Korean publisher NCSoft, which has some MMORPGs, had a good financial quarter, but it doesn't look as good for individual games owned by NCSoft. The publisher’s earnings have increased compared to last year, but Guild Wars 2 (buy now for € 39.95) from developer studio Arenanet had the worst quarter in its history.
Mobile games from NCSoft are clearing away, western MMOs are weakening
Mobile offshoots from NCSoft are particularly popular in Asia, handheld title revenues have risen by an impressive 59 percent. Lineage and Lineage 2 also increased compared to the previous year – the revenues are 24-25 percent stronger.
NCSoft's mobile segment is thriving as Western MMORPGs such as GW2, B&S and Aion have fallen in revenue.

In the west, gamers do not play lineage, but mainly NCSoft MMORPGs such as Guild Wars 2, Aion and Blade & Soul, which all have three declining earnings: The earnings at Aion have decreased by 36 percent compared to the previous year, at Blade & Soul by 28 percent and in Guild Wars 2 by 25 percent.
Guild Wars 2 revenue has dropped significantly compared to the previous two years (when Path of Fire was released).

Does Guild Wars 2 just need a new expansion?
The latter experienced the worst quarter since its release in 2012. The lack of an expansion may be noticeable here: Path of Fire, which brought the mount system and new class specializations, was published in September 2017, new content is currently available in the MMO about the Living World, which is updated every few months Content published. However, none of them was really at the level of an expansion, which could explain less interest on the part of the players.
