He-man returns! And not as a reboot, but as a continuation of the original series from the 80s. Netflix has now shared the first pictures showing He-Man, Skeletor & Co in a new look.

In times of reboots and remakes, the makers of Masters of the Universe: Revelation relied on something different: The new He-Man series will be a direct continuation of the original series from the 1980s. So if you watched the cartoon series over 30 years ago, you will get the sequel to these events. The animation series naturally has a modern look, but it remains true to its roots – as the first images from Netflix demonstrate:

Who is the new He-Man series from?

Behind it all is Powerhouse Animation Studios, to whom we owe the animation Castlevania, the final season of which was only recently released. The showrunner of the new He-Man series is the popular nerd and director Kevin Smith (Clerks, Dogma, Jay & Silent Bob), who will also direct the individual episodes. “Revelation” is supposed to be more story-heavy than the original, which mostly offered self-contained episodes.

What is Masters of the Universe: Revelation about?

According to the official description, the story of the new series begins after a “cataclysmic battle” between Skeletor and He-Man. Eternia was torn apart, the guards of Grayskull scattered in all directions. Teela tries to bring the broken heroes back together. The Sword of Power is also missing – but it has to be found quickly to save the universe.

He-Man: English cast can be heard, uh, seen

The voices of the characters in the He-Man sequel are cast with loads of stars in the original English version:

  • Mark Hamill (Luke Skywalker, popular Joker voice from Batman stories) is a skeletor
  • Sarah Michelle Gellar (Buffy) is Teela
  • Chris Wood is Prince Adam / He-Man
  • Lena Headey (Cersei in GoT) ist Evil-Lyn
  • Tiffany Smith is Andra

The following actors also lend their voices in the animated series in as yet unknown roles: Liam Cunningham, Stephen Root, Diedrich Bader, Henry Rollins, Alicia Silverstone, Justin Long, Phil LaMarr, Tony Todd, Cree Summer, Kevin Michael Richardson, Kevin Conroy (iconic Batman Voice actor!) And Jason Mewes, who has been in front of the camera in many projects with Kevin Smith.
