Higher item level for rear bosses in Castle Nathria

from Philipp Sattler
Castle Nathria will be the first raid in the upcoming WoW expansion Shadowlands and will open its gates to players a few weeks after the release. As in Ny'alotha and the Hellfire Citadel, the loot from the rear bosses will have a higher item level. Unlike in the past, however, this will not clearly benefit individual classes.

The days when WoW players got the best loot exclusively in raids are long gone. In Mythic Plus dungeons there are items with a higher level than in normal and heroic raids. The loot from the weekly box even has the same item level as equipment from the mythical raid. That will be similar in WoW Shadowlands. However, there is another exception. Because the last two bosses in Castle Nathria drop a higher item level for you than the previous ones. This means that the best possible equipment will be available exclusively in the mythical raid in the first tier – at least on some slots.

The developers at Blizzard avoid a mistake they made in the past when they gave the final bosses a higher item level. In contrast to the past, there are now weapons with a higher item level for all types of play in Schloss Nathria. This was not always the case in the past and caused some classes to be massively disadvantaged as a result. Since Blizzard drops weapon tokens instead of weapons in the raid in Shadowlands, this is no longer a problem. Weapons drop from the final boss for all classes, while offhand items can be looted from the penultimate boss.
It is also worth noting that the item level increase is already present in the first raid of the expansion. In the past this was mostly only active in later raids.

The following item levels can be looted in the raid Schloss Nathria. The number in brackets refers to the two final bosses.

  • LFR: 187 (194)
  • Normal: 200 (207)
  • Heroic: 213 (220)
  • Mythic: 226 (233)
