The original version of Overcooked 2 (buy now for 27.46 €) for the Switch was not as fun compared to the other console editions – at least in online mode, because it suffered from annoying delays. Here we can only partially give the all-clear: Lags you still encounter on the Switch occasionally despite patches, but now all versions are at least roughly the same quality.

But in the meantime, updates have brought some comfortable improvements into play as well as a lot of new content that you may not even know if you put the wooden spoon aside early after the release. With the Season Pass for about 18 euros you get all the additional content that has been released so far (further DLCs are to follow), the free extensions are logically free. Thanks to a patch, there is now finally the possibility to restart levels immediately after finishing and an overview of the stars received on the Oberweltkarte. You can also start the New Game Plus mode or test your stamina in survival mode. And now we go through all the DLCs and their scope individually!

Overcooked 2: announcement trailer for the chaotic cooking game successor

For about three euros you get six new cooks (for example a unicorn and a platypus). Apart from the appearance, however, they are no different from the rest of the cooking brigade. Can you save yourself!

Now it's going to be tropical! For five euros each, this expansion also delivers new chefs, but much more important: twelve new levels and fresh recipes. The mechanics are also expanded, dirty dishes can be cleaned with a water gun, your delicious smoothies can be prepared in a blender and your skewers on the grill. The level of difficulty increases significantly compared to the main game, especially the last level makes it difficult for you with sudden tsunami waves to reach the highest score.

This DLC also costs five euros, but instead of going to an island paradise, you go camping in these twelve new levels with a few new chefs. You prepare S'mores and British breakfast, among other things. But since you are in the forest, some of the ingredients have to be taken from backpacks that another player is carrying, and you also have to chop firewood! The level of difficulty is a bit higher than at Surf 'n' Turf, where true kitchen specialists are also required. It is particularly difficult for you as a duo.

There is no stove in the forest, so you have to roast your marshmallows over the fire in Campfire Cook Off. You have to chop wood first!

Night of the Hangry Horde

This DLC is more extensive than the other two paid additional content, but also costs almost twice as much at around nine euros. Here you will not only get new chefs and twelve new levels, but also special horde challenges in which the so-called Unbrote – yes, these are zombie breads – storm your kitchen. By quenching their hunger and quickly preparing the recipes, you fend them off. There are also new mechanics here, for example the guillotine, which you use to cut ingredients. Here you will definitely get the most content for your money and the Horde mode provides a refreshing change in the conventional game menu sequence.

The last paid DLC to date also costs five euros and puts you on a fair. In four levels, you will prepare fresh recipes with four new chefs, such as burger menus with soft drinks and hot dogs. Here cannons serve as a means of transportation! Compared to the more sophisticated and larger Night of the Hangry Horde, Carnival of Chaos looks a bit more interchangeable and routine, but the content of the DLC is not bad because of that.

Kevin's Christmas Cracker, Chinese New Year & Winter Wonderland

These three updates are free, you will receive new chefs and prepare fresh noodle soup and cocoa, among other things.

In the free Christmas update Winter Wonderland you can prepare delicious roast ovens. You will also receive two new chefs in addition to the five new kitchens.

My opinion

“Overcooked 2 just works, and the developers always deliver new content – great! "

I least like the DLC Carnival of Chaos. But maybe after the successful Night of the Hangry Horde I was just a little disappointed with the straightforward design of the fair expansion. By the way, I had the most fun with the wok dishes in the free New Year 2018 update, Chinese New Year. The other improvements in comfort were also very convenient for me; what was it that annoyed me to have to take a detour around the world map if I wanted to try a level again? I am excited to see what crazy and creative ideas the developers will use to fuel the next kitchen battles. My goal is to get four stars in each level – I am ambitious!
