The legendary bad Christmas special from Star Wars is now practically a cult phenomenon, which is also clear to those responsible at Disney: On Disney +, an homage to the "so bad it's good" phenomenon appears – with LEGO figures!
In 1978 something appeared that still amazes Star Wars fans, laughs and tears their hair: The "Star Wars Holiday Special", which was broadcast on the station CBS. In this incredibly embarrassing film we see all our heroes like Chewie, Leia, Han, Luke & Co celebrating the so-called Day of Life. This holiday of the Wookiees is of course very much based on Christmas. George Lucas himself wrote the script, but was so disappointed with the end result that he made sure for years to prevent a re-broadcast or even a video release – which of course did not stop the development of a fan cult around the special Viewing copies of the special. This year the Holiday Special will not appear on Disney +, but a LEGO homage!
What is the LEGO Star Wars Christmas Special about?
The "The Lego Star Wars Holiday Special" is primarily about the "new" heroes Rey, Finn and Poe Dameron, who also celebrate the Day of Life. But apart from that, many characters from the different Star Wars epochs should appear. Rey and her droid BB-8 are thrown through space and time while exploring a Jedi temple, where they encounter Obi-Wan, Darth Vader and the young, rebellious version of Luke Skywalker, among others.
A lot of winking, but also heart
Executive producer Josh Rimes emphasizes that the whole thing is of course to be understood with a wink. Popular Christmas and Thanksgiving films such as "The life is wonderful, is not it?", "One ticket for two" and "Merry Christmas". Nevertheless, the new Christmas special should also celebrate the saga – and provide consolation in a chaotic year.
Fun fact: By the way, did you know that Boba Fett made his first appearance in the Holiday Special? He appeared in a cartoon that was shown during the special!
The Lego Star Wars Holiday Special is due to appear on Disney + on November 17th – at least in the US.
