Cyberpunk 2077 will be a very big role-playing game. To make the city of Night City feel like a metropolis, there are more than 1,000 NPCs.
The world in the upcoming action role-playing game Cyberpunk 2077 will not be as extensive as in The Witcher 3, but with Night City you are exploring a huge city that extends upwards thanks to many skyscrapers. In order to make such a metropolis seem busy, CD Projekt Red has created more than 1,000 NPCs.
NPCs with daily routines
This emerges from a podcast by the colleagues from Gamestar, as Reddit user Moraez reports. The interesting thing is not the sheer number of NPCs, but that they appear lively thanks to daily routines.
There were also a lot of NPCs in The Witcher 3, but not all of them followed a daily schedule. For Cyberpunk 2077 (buy now for € 59.99) CD Projekt Red has taken the trouble to give the more than 1,000 residents of the city various tasks that they do every day. You can watch the NPCs go about their business. Because whether you are present or not, the people will carry out their tasks. That should make the world look very realistic. The developers create the daily routines by hand.
RPGs have given NPCs such daily routines before. For example in Ultima 5 from 1988. Back then, the rhythm was quite simple. NPCs got up in the morning, went to work, went to the pub in the evening and went back to bed at night. We will then experience exactly what the daily routines look like in Cyberpunk 2077 at Release. To give 1,000 non-player characters such a rhythm is impressive. Rockstar Games' Red Dead Redemption 2 may still come close here.
Cyberpunk 2077 will be released on September 17th for PC, PS4 and Xbox One. If you want to play Stadia via Google's streaming service, you have to be patient a little longer. According to CD Projekt Red, the action RPG will only be released for this platform towards the end of the year. The next-gen version for the PS5 will also follow later.
