Disney is the downfall for the Star Wars franchise! Disney is cannibalizing the Star Wars franchise! Are there any thick and stupid things in Star Wars now ?! Fans, moviegoers and gamers have all kinds of opinions about Disney and Star Wars, but as skeptical as I have been about Disney myself, I have to ask myself one thing: is Disney saving Star Wars right now?
I’m sure some of you guys will shake your head: Saving Disney and Star Wars? But Disney is bad! And Disney is without question a corporation that wants to make money with one of the most famous franchises on the market. Similar to all corporations.
Money will certainly be made with the remake of Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic as well. Something that will probably please Disney as well as the fans who have long been waiting for a Star Wars RPG – or a remake of the most famous Star Wars RPG.
A first teaser for the remake of Star Wars: Kotor.
Disney is revoking EA’s Star Wars license – and that’s a good thing
What is guaranteed not to earn money but rather to be lost, these are canceled projects of games. Did you know EA canceled at least three consecutive Star Wars projects? We remember the project with the code name Ragtag at Visceral Games – a Star Wars single player game. Set.
Then Visceral Games should develop a new game in the Star Wars universe: Project Orca. This time the whole studio was closed immediately; bye bye Visceral Games. Project Orca survived briefly at EA Vancouver. Then – set.
Finally, there was Project Star Wars Viking, which was due out in 2020. You guessed it: discontinued. (Those: t3n)
The public may not even know all of the Star Wars projects eaten by EA. But hey, at least Battlefront 2 came out! That wouldn’t have been so bad without the loot boxes. I stress: were. The only really good Star Wars game from EA in recent years is Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order. And maybe Star Wars: Squadrons.
The remake of Star Wars: Kotor is no longer developed by EAwhat it looks like. The reason is certainly the license contract between Disney and EA, which is slowly running out, or in other words: It will not be renewed, because – we can assume – Disney isn’t exactly happy with EA’s handling of the Star Wars brand. And that’s awesome! Because Disney is probably looking for new partners for upcoming Star Wars games, we may expect a Jedi adventure for PC and console more often than every 10 years. Maybe even a brand new single player RPG?
Lots of films and series in a galaxy far, far away
There is MUCH that Disney is planning or realizing right now with regard to Star Wars (Source: Syfy):
- The Mandalorian: Staffel 3
- The Book of Boba Fett (Serie?)
- Obi-Wan Kenobi (Serie)
- Star Wars: Ahsoka (Serie)
- Andor (Series)
- Lando (Series)
- The Acolyte (Mystery-Thriller-Serie)
- A Droid Story (Animationsserie 2022)
- Star Wars: The Bad Batch (series on Disney +)
- Star Wars: Visions (September 22nd on Disney +)
- A new movie
- Ein Star-Wars-Film von Taika Waititi
What can be said about Disney, but they do want Star Wars and they want Star Wars a lot. The studio seems to be do not be afraid of experiments (Rogue One: A Star Wars Story), although some go a little wrong (Solo: A Star Wars Story). So if you want to see and play more of Star Wars like me, Disney does seem to be on the good side of the force.
In the aftermath of Star Wars: Episode 3 – Revenge of the Sith, it seemed like that was it for a while. And although the new Star Wars movies from Disney haven’t always thrilled me, I’m now glad that the company has adopted the brand – and apparently does not want to scrap it, like any other corporations.
