Director James Cameron commented on the status of the next film in the Avatar series. He explains that despite several postponements, the film will be released in December 2021.

There are currently four films Avatar in progress. The first sequel to the hit movie from 2009 is slated for release in December 2021. Now director James Cameron commented on the mammoth project.

Avatar 2 is on schedule

Cameron says: "From 2013 to now, we have mainly designed the whole world with four new films. We have written and completed scripts for all four films. We have cast the roles and have films two and three and part of film number four made the motion capture shots. We’re mostly done with the live action. I’ll be in New Zealand for a few more months in the spring, so we’re on track to do what we set out to do. ”

He goes on to explain, "People don't really understand the scale and complexity of the process. It's like making two and a half large animated films. A typical large animated film takes about four years. So if you do the math, we're pretty much right for December 2021 on schedule. "

The Avatar series should accompany us for quite a while. While Avatar 2 will launch on December 18, 2021, Avatar 3 is scheduled for December 22, 2023. Avatar 4 is slated to follow on December 19, 2025 and Avatar 5 will have a theatrical release date on December 17, 2027.
