The new name for the Overwatch hero Jesse McCree has been set. The developers justify the name change in a bluepost with the character’s story – and reveal when the hero will go into battle under his new name.

In addition to WoW, the developers at Blizzard are also making some changes in Overwatch in connection with the company’s internal sexism scandal. The Overwatch character Jesse McCree, named after a former Blizzard employee, has therefore been given a new name. It is now clear what the hero will be called in the future and when the name change will take effect in the game.

Jesse McCree wird Cole Cassidy

The developers announced the new name on Twitter. Jesse McCree will therefore be called Cole Cassidy from October 26, 2021. The team writes about this in an official bluepost, which should certainly allude to the past events at Blizzard:
The first thing a vagabond loses is his name, and this one gave up his long ago. Running away from his past also meant running away from himself, and each subsequent year only widened the chasm between who he was and who he has become. But there comes a time in every cowboy’s life when they have to stop and face it.

To this new Overwatch (buy now € 57.99) to do better – to put things right – he had to be honest with himself and his team. The cowboy he was rode off into the sunset, and Cole Cassidy faced the world at sunrise.

Cole Cassidy – a fitting name for a western hero, or what do you think? Do you like the new name? Or would you have wished for something else? Write us your opinion in the comments!
