Do you know what I like best about WoW Classic? The opportunity to gradually earn the best equipment for my villain. Each boss has a fixed list of loot that can drop. Sure, some parts are never seen for months. But when the object of desire finally appears and finds its way into your own pocket, the joy is great. So big that even after many years old vanilla veterans could still remember special delicacies such as dragon fang talisman, stab of death or ribbon from Accuria.
When chance kills fun
Over the years, the developers at Blizzard have unfortunately made it harder and harder to hunt down the best possible set of equipment with the character. In Battle for Azeroth, for example, armor and weapons were not only available in umpteen item-level variants, they could also be war-forged, titanium-forged or corrupted – if it so luck would. Speaking of which: chance and luck also played a major role in the weekly chest reward. Even in PvP you had to hope that at the end of a game you would get an item if you were lucky. Whether that turned out to be an upgrade was another matter. In short, the system frustrated me more than it motivated me. In almost all cases the objects had no tangible value, they were interchangeable … or do you still remember a loot from the BfA era?
Less is more!
For this very reason, the WoW community has wanted random elements such as titanium forged or the weekly box to be deleted for years. And Blizzard finally listened to us! War-forged and titanium-forged no longer exist. We can actually create a so-called best-in-slot list for our character again, on which we put the best items that we can currently earn. And then we can target the very activities through which we can earn the items on the list. hot! And it works: for the first time in years, I catch myself rummaging through the bag lists of dungeon and raid bastards to make note of where potential upgrades are waiting for my villain or demon hunter. I doubt whether there will be any among these items that I will remember for years to come. In my opinion, it is definitely a step in the right direction.
Welcome back, PvP traders!
In the PvP area, too, we are less dependent on chance. The PvP traders are back and offer useful clothes that can be upgraded several times before the start of the first season. So it is enough to register regularly for the battlefields, and with little effort you can specifically plug a few gaps in your own equipment or equip yourself with the PvP parts across the board. In general, it's nice that there are again clothes that can be earned via PvP and that, thanks to their versatility, are made for the gamer's brawls. The PvP trinkets even deliver a strong set bonus in a double pack.
Treasury with choices
In other ways, too, Blizzard tries to take chance out of the loot equation a bit. Instead of a box that promises us a random reward once a week, we win from the start of Season 1 via PvP, Raids and Mythic Plus dungeons A total of nine potential loot items, from which we can then choose the loot that best suits us in the treasury of Oribos. Yes, chance is still part of the system here. Due to the selection, however, something suitable is likely to be found much more often. The weapon tokens from Nathria Castle, which we can exchange for our desired beating, hit a similar notch. Or let's take the new Legendarys. If the counterparts from Legion dropped completely randomly, we can now work specifically towards the legendary effects that are best for us. That also minimizes frustration.
Less is more!
The bottom line is that I notice that I have a lot of fun with the character progression in the Shadowlands. But there is still room for improvement. Why do the craftsmen not have armor and weapons in their offer that are complex to manufacture and which are a great option for the first Nathria evenings? Instead, people are currently earning a golden nose that happens to be over epic world drops with item level 190 stumble. Classic also shows how it can be done better.
