Lethal Weapon, the icon of action films, the prototype of modern buddy movies, often copied and never matched, could actually get a sequel. Lethal Weapon 5 is according to a website report Deadline apparently currently in the planning phase. The success of the Lethal Weapon TV series may pave the way for Murtaugh and Riggs to return on the big screen.
According to the deadline, the two main actors Danny Glover and Mel Gibson have already confirmed that they are currently in negotiations with Warner Bros. in order to be able to implement Lethal Weapon 5. Richard Donner was also on board again as a director – he had already directed parts one to four. Channing Gibson, who already wrote the story for Lethal Weapon 4, is said to be responsible for the script. Warner Bros. has not yet officially confirmed that Lethal Weapon 5 is actually in the making. However, at least the financial aspect should not be an obstacle, because the four predecessors grossed almost one billion US dollars at the box office.
