WoW fans have taken the trouble to compare NPC models in Maldraxxus from the standard version with the variants of the Chinese version of the online role-playing game from Blizzard. The differences are clearly detailed.
Chinese players can enjoy a different WoW version than the rest of the fans of the Blizzard MMORPG in the rest of the world – and this is also reflected in the current Shadowlands expansion. The WoW developers have adapted various NPCs in Maldraxxus and mainly removed clearly visible bones of the standard version from their models. Reddit user Grayvves has summarized the result in a few comparison images:
Due to the adaptations, the NPC models not only appear much sparser and less detailed than their local twins, but also much less "dead". Slime creatures like Margravine Stradama or Globgrog only consist of a greenish mass without the typical bones and skeletons that can be seen in the standard version of WoW. The Supreme Outfitter of the Immortal Army has to do without a large part of his bone armor in the Chinese version and thus makes a rather pathetic appearance. A lich in Maldraxxus lacks the entire torso, while a ghoul, on the other hand, has to make do with a black blob as an upper body.
By the way: The reason that WoW (buy now € 14.99 )-Developers have adapted their game for the Chinese market in this way is probably a kind of anticipatory obedience to the censorship authorities of the communist regime. Even if the latter does not automatically ban all depictions of blood and bones from video games, companies such as Blizzard often make an effort in advance to ensure that their products withstand official inspection and are allowed to appear in China.
